From 2003, through his 15-year career at METI, Keiichi Uruga has been completely immersed in realizing IT innovations such as efficiency improvement of government agencies using IT, local area revival through IT, IoT usage in manufacturing industries etc. As an aide to the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare, he spearheaded the IT technology-based solution to solve what became a major social problem in Japan, the errors in the pension plan data records in 2007. Currently, at the Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy Department, he plays the role of chief coordinator of various policy planning regarding renewable energy, energy conservation and new electricity system using IT applications. He is also the executive producer of the New Japan Islands Project for SXSW 2019.
